The new Oinoz Verdejo 2017 wine, a brand belonging to the Bodega Carlos Moro winemaking company, has been awarded a Baco de Oro gold medal at the 32nd National Young Wines Competition by the Spanish Tasters Union. Through blind tasting trials, 55 jury members from the Spanish Tasters Union assessed the 520 reference wines in participation, subsequently awarding the Grandes Bacos de Oro, Bacos de Oro and Bacos de Plata prizes.

The Baco Awards for the 2017 harvest is the only competition in Spain to involve only wines created in the most recent harvest, with no restrictions on the type of wine (white, red, rosé, sweet or sparkling) or on the wine’s origin (Designations of Origin, Vinos de la Tierra wines, Vinos de Pago wines and table wines).

Oinoz Verdejo is the first white wine to be launched by the Bodega Carlos Moro brand this summer. After creating and presenting the two red wines from the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin, Oinoz Crianza and Oinoz by Claude Gros, the contemporary winemaking brand has chosen to offer a white wine created with 100% Verdejo grapes in Rueda, the cradle of this variety, to meet the demands of a section of the population which seeks fresh white wines, particularly during this time of the year.

The character of this wine is as Mediterranean as its title, as “oinoz” is the term that was chosen to name the first grape juice to be fermented by the Mediterranean Sea.

Oinoz Verdejo 2017 is a single-variety white which is fresh, smooth and elegant. It is of a pale straw yellow colour with a bright and lively greenish edge. It displays tropical, fruity aromas and floral notes of white flower, hay and fresh grass, which mingle with elegant aniseed touches. It is structured on the palate, striking a perfect balance between acidity and volume which lends it a notable freshness. This is a lingering wine with a long fruity aftertaste.

The wine is made using grapes from the vineyards owned by Bodegas Familiares Matarromera in the region of Villalba de Adaja (Matapozuelos), more specifically the Finca Las Marcas which extends over more than 85ha. and produces 9,000 kg/ha. The company is estimated to produce an annual total of 450,000 bottles of this reference wine.
