The wine designed by French master winemaker Claude Gros for Bodega Carlos Moro has won the Gold Medal at the prestigious MUNDUS VINI international wine competition. It was selected from among 6,700 wines that were presented, which originated from over 150 winemaking regions around the world. The MUNDUS VINI International Wine Awards were founded fifteen years ago by Meininger Verlag and to this day it remains one of the most important wine competitions in the world.

The Riojan brand Oinoz encompasses two reference reds: Oinoz Crianza and Oinoz by Claude Gros, the red reserve wine that the prestigious French winemaker describes as “an elegant wine with Burgundy roots”. Oinoz by Claude Gros is a wine made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, which present a strong opaque surface and a dark cardinal red colour with purplish hues. The wine originates from older vineyards aged almost eighty years, which are carefully cultivated in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida with a strictly limited production. The wine is aged exclusively in new barrels, selected by the French winemaker himself, for a period of eighteen months. This wine is extremely elegant, with aromas of mature red fruits such as blackberry and subtle touches of black fruits, which coexist perfectly with aromas originating from the barrel-ageing process such as clear aromas, black pepper, chocolate, toffee and noble woods.

The name “Oinoz” refers to the historical beginnings of wine, as this is one of the names given to an early fermented grape juice that could be considered the origin of wine.

Bodega Carlos Moro

Bodega Carlos Moro is the owner of brands such as CM (which includes the CM and CM Prestigio wines), Oinoz (Oinoz Crianza and Oinoz by Claude Gros) and Carlos Moro Vinos de Finca. Last year, the winemaker was given the National Award for Innovation by the Spanish Ministry for the Economy and Competitiveness. This prize was awarded by King Felipe VI in recognition of Carlos Moro’s far-reaching innovative journey which began when he founded Bodega Matarromera in 1988 in homage to the winemaking traditions of his forefathers. In 2014, Carlos Moro strengthened his support for the prestigious Rioja Denomination of Origin by creating the “Bodegas & Viñedos Carlos Moro” company, and he opened the doors to wine tourism in 2016.

Claude Gros

French master winemaker Claude Gros (Perpignan, 1963) has extensive experience in the field of winemaking and has felt a close connection to the world of wine from a very young age. As he himself acknowledges, at the age of fifteen he was already tasting wine with his father. Trained in Montpellier, his greatest success so far has been the launch of his own wine cellar, Languedoc del Clos des Truffiers, which released a wine that was awarded 100 points in the Robert Parker list in 2001.

Claude Gros has been linked to Bodegas Familiares Matarromera since the age of fifteen. He advises and guides the company in the creation of many of its most highly-renowned wines.
