The first vintage of the CM 2015 Rioja wine – created by Bodega Carlos Moro – has won the Gold Medal at the prestigious Berliner Wein Trophy international awards. This is the most important wine competition in Germany and one of the most significant on an international level. 6,700 wines from around the world competed in the event.

In 2015 Bodega Carlos Moro celebrated its first harvest and released this particular wine: one of the most personal creations of winemaker Carlos Moro. The wine, which carries its creator’s initials, has been the protagonist of the campaign which was launched by his winemaking company under the title #connombrepropio, or #underitsownname. Since it was presented in May last year, CM 2015 has won awards in many different competitions, such as the Brussels World Championships and Decanter. It has also received outstanding ratings (90 points and above) in the most important wine guides in Spain, such as Peñín, Gourmets and the El País Wine Yearbook, among others.

CM 2015 originates from vineyards aged between 35 and 50 years in the highest region of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The hand-picked Tempranillo variety grapes undergo three different selection processes (one in the field and two in the cellar) and following fermentation they are left to rest for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. This is a highly intense wine, with a strong bright cherry red colour, a solid structure and a good level of balance. It is extremely flavourful, with a lingering aftertaste.

Bodega Carlos Moro is the owner of the CM brand (which includes the CM and CM Prestigio wines), the Oinoz brand (which includes the Oinoz Crianza and Oinoz by Claude Gros wines) and the Carlos Moro Vinos de Finca brand. Last year, the winemaker was awarded the National Prize for Innovation by the Spanish Ministry for the Economy and Competitiveness. This prize was awarded by King Felipe VI in recognition of Carlos Moro’s extensive innovative journey, which began in 1988 when he founded Bodegas Matarromera in homage to the winemaking traditions of his forefathers.

In 2014, he strengthened his support for the prestigious Rioja Denomination of Origin by creating the “Bodegas & Viñedos Carlos Moro” company after spending two years performing many different tests in the area. In 2016 he expanded into wine tourism, providing a range of different experiences for visitors to this highly prestigious winemaking region. These visitors are able to tour the impressive underground cave – measuring 300 metres in length and almost 1,200 square metres in surface area – and experience the different areas via a panoramic elevator which can be used to observe the winemaking process.
