The most high-end wine to be produced by Bodega Carlos Moro has won a Gold Medal in the 25th edition of the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles which was recently held in Beijing.

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is the world’s only travelling competition, with a history spanning 25 years, and it is the only wine competition to perform quality control tests on the winning wines.

CM Prestigio originates from the Tempranillo variety vineyards which are owned by Bodega Carlos Moro in Labastida, Álava: El Acueducto, Altabaza, Cuba Negra and Larrázuri. These vineyards range in age between 35 and 80 years. The vines are planted upon a clayish soil on excellent sloping land, with limited production which gives rise to smaller grapes. The grapes undergo a triple selection process (once in the field and twice in the wine cellar, with selection being first bunch by bunch then grape by grape). Production is strictly limited, with only 38,000 CM Prestigio 2015 bottles being released. This wine is aged for 18 months in entirely new barrels, both French (80%) and American (20%). The resulting wine is of a deep yet bright cherry red colour with an elegant, complex and intense aroma and a long, silky and lingering flavour.

Carlos Moro wineries and vineyards. The personal passion of this winemaker and wine expert

Carlos Moro founded Matarromera in 1988 but his love for the land and for wine comes from the long-established winemaking traditions of his ancestors. In 2014 he made his passion for the prestigious Rioja Designation of Origin a reality by creating the “Bodegas & Viñedos Carlos Moro” company.

In 2015 Bodega Carlos Moro celebrated its first harvest, bringing in more than 400,000kg, and in 2016 the company opened its doors to wine tourism, providing different experiences for visitors to this highly prestigious traditional winemaking region. During their time at the winery, visitors tour the impressive subterranean area which measures 300 metres in length and over 1,200 square metres in area, and experience the different floors by way of a panoramic elevator from which the winemaking process may be observed.

The company currently owns more than 20 hectares of its own vineyards which are distributed across 23 company plots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in La Rioja and Labastida in Álava and it also has 75 managed hectares situated in these same regions and in Ábalos, a neighbouring municipality to San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
