This morning, Carlos Moro presented the first wine that the company has created in the Ribeiro DO at Madrid Fusión. This wine is a product of the company’scollaborative spirit and endless desire to seek out new horizons in order to create singular wines from the most outstanding wine-producing regions of Spain.

Carlos Moro Finca San Cibrao 2017 (Ribeiro DO) is the product of a collaborative effort between two reference companies in the world of wine – Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and Viña Costeira–both of which have explored new combinationsbefore settling on a unique and special coupage which uses the most outstanding local varieties from the Ribeiro Denomination of Origin: Treixadura, Godello and Albariño. The end product is a truly special wine which presentsnovel registers and aromas.

This wine is one of five reference products in the Carlos Moro Vinos de Finca range, which brings together the most special selections from different denominations of origin.  The other wines in this collection are: “Carlos Moro Finca Las Marcas” (Rueda DO), “Carlos Moro Finca Valdehierro” (Cigales DO), “Carlos Moro Finca Valmediano” (Toro DO) and Rento (Ribera del Duero DO).

Carlos Moro stated that “this Galician wine truly enriches the ‘Vinos de Finca’ family as it comes from a very unusual vineyard which evokes the Atlantic breeze through a perfect coupage of three different varieties which together create a unique character andsensory enjoyment”.

These wines are a product of thewinemaking company’s passion for the land and endless pursuit of winemaking excellence. The wines originate from exceptional fincas, lending them a unique and distinctive character. The fincas are located in the most prestigious denomination of origin regions in Spain, where the grapes are painstakingly selected by the winemaking team in order to create this limited-editioncollection.The winery will release 7,000 bottles of Carlos Moro Finca San Cibrao onto the market, of which approximately half will be exported, based on the predictions of the winemaking company.

The Finca San Cibrao rises from the banks of the Miño river with the exposed nature of this hillside finca, which faces the midday sun, making it perfectly placed to ensure the full maturity of the grapes. This is a unique finca and a product of a land which is closely linked to vines and wines: a veritable shop window display of the best local varieties of the Ribeiro DO (Treixadura, Godello, Albariño).

This vineyard is small in scale, lightly sloping and positioned on cool terrain with a granite base of high mineral content. It is blessed with a spectacular view across the Miño valley in an idyllic region of spectacular sunsets, sharing natural space with Atlantic tree species such as pine and Galician oak.
Carlos Moro Finca San Cibrao 2017 is created from a carefully-selected blend of three local grape varieties (Treixadura, Godello and Albariño), resulting in a limited-edition wine which presents a well-balanced assemblage filled with personality and freshness.

The wine is of a pale yellow colour with bright greenish hints. The nose is fresh, elegant and intense, dominated by fruity notes of green apple and freshly-cut cut hay as well as subtle notes of white flower.  This wine is lively and elegant on the palate, with body and structure and a pleasant, persistent finish.

The presentation was also attended by Andrés Rodríguez, Managing Director of Viña Costeira, who announced that “We are truly proud to have been chosen by Carlos Moro, as this is a testament to the high quality of Ribeiro wines”.

Master winemaker Manuel Castro in turn emphasised “the selection of varieties and their assemblage” in this wine, which “lend it a unique character. The Treixadura is the star variety of the Ribeiro region, and it works extremely well with the strokes of Godello and Albariño which provide some subtle nuances”.

Bodega Carlos Moro belongs to Bodegas FamiliaresMatarromera.
